Issuance of Vietnam Passports with chips

A passport with a chip is a passport with an electronic device that holds the passport holder's encrypted information and the issuer's signature.

To compare with the old model, the new chipped popular passport has more improvements. This is an elaborately designed passport model that meets more security requirements, prevents information from being falsified, meets ICAO standards. The new passport consists of 50 pages. Including 2 charcoal purple covers, printed on a new paper material thicker than the old passport.

On each page are typical images of style, images of national sovereignty, famous cultural heritages of the country such as: Ha Long Bay, Hue capital, Hung temple, Hoi An ancient town, Nha Rong harbor, Lung Cu flagpole, etc contribute to affirming and promoting the image of Vietnam to the world; expressing the tradition, history, geography and culture of Vietnam.

Who are the beneficiaries of passports with electronic chips?

  • Vietnamese citizens in the country who have a chipped citizen ID or a valid 12-digit citizen ID
  • Have a valid account on the Public Service Portal
  • Ability to pay fees online via the Government payment system
  • Citizens aged 14 years and above with Vietnamese nationality are eligible for a passport with an electronic chip. This person has the choice to issue a passport with an electronic chip or not.
  • Persons under the age of 14 are only issued ordinary passports without electronic chips.

Validity of passports with electronic chips:

  • The validity of an ordinary passport with an electronic chip is 10 years.
  • The validity of an ordinary passport without an electronic chip is 05 years.
  • Passports issued under the abbreviated procedure are not older than 12 months and all are not renewed.

If you apply for a passport online, you will need to pay additional fees to deliver the passport home by post office.

- Express delivery: You have to pay an additional fee for using an authorized courier, this cost is determined by the delivery unit.

- After receiving the receipt, go immediately to the post office to pay the fee and receive your passport
