In Article 20, Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam 2014, the law stipulates clearly if your passport has expired or is valid for less than 6 months from the entry date, you are not eligible to apply for a Vietnam visa, and you may also be refused transportation by airlines.
